It depends on what your budget is, what your sleeping preferences are, etc. Knowing that there is no one best model, we thought it would maybe be helpful to run through and make a case for each mattress and why it might be the best fit for someone and why it might not be the best fit for someone.
The Cloud Series was introduced in 2009 to meet the growing demands of a consumer market clamoring for a softer sleeping surface that provided support. Tempur-Pedic answered with a line that has currently resulted in 6 different mattresses that provide the softest, sinkable surface yet, with layered support to provide the foundation you need for a good night’s sleep.
The Cloud Series ranges from a medium soft to the most soft mattress offered by the company with everything in between. Two Breeze options have also been available, providing both soft sleep comfort, and a cooling surface.
It has the most accessible price of the Cloud collection and has a medium softness that might be accessible to more people. But it might not be thick enough for some sleepers and some side sleepers might want a softer mattress.

It is the second of the most affordable mattress in the entire line. Tempur-Contour Supreme is great for those with back pain issues, and can be a good fit for stomach and back sleepers. However, it’s too firm for most side sleepers and can even be too firm for back and stomach and back sleepers.

It’s highly contouring mattress which is great for people with back pain issues. It’s also good for people looking for a medium firm mattress. Some may question whether it’s worth $500 more than the Contour Elite and it may still be too firm for side sleepers.
The Flex series of mattresses was introduced less than a year ago and was the answer to the popular hybrid options currently available on the market. This line combines Tempur-Pedic’s memory foam layers with a pocketed coil innerspring that moves with the weight distribution of your body. This line is offered in choices to meet any type of sleepers needs ranging from a medium soft to firm surface choice.
Because of the innerspring, this is a good choice for heavier body types due to how it supports the body from below, but also provides the contouring feel of memory foam. Often heavier bodies need a more uplifting support to keep material from compressing, and to provide proper weight distribution for a more comfortable night’s rest.
It has a more accessible price point than a lot of other models and a good middle-of-the-road firmness level. Plus it has a more responsive feel than other models. However, it doesn’t have the slow-moving feel Tempur-Pedic is known for that some people love and could be too firm for some side sleepers / too soft for some back/stomach sleepers.

The mattresses range from firm to soft, and the Cloud Supreme Breeze falls into medium-soft range of the series. Created to address the issue of heat sinks that many memory foams can create due to the variety of body types and weights, the Breeze line is supposed to respond to elevated body temperatures in three ways to reduce your discomfort due to heat and humidity, and give you the best night’s sleep possible. As with all their mattresses, it comes complete with an EasyRefresh cover that zips on, as well as multiple layers of patented TEMPUR foam for both comfort and cooling properties. The softer line of comfort are geared towards combination sleepers rather than solely back or stomach sleepers. Soft mattress don’t always have enough support to keep spinal alignment in those who have a tendency to sleep prone, and you may wake with back pains you didn’t go to sleep with if the surface is too soft. The mattress is available in a twin long, queen and queen long, through a California King.
Tempur-Cloud Luxe Breeze is the most luxurious mattress in the line and sleeps cooler than the non-Breeze equivalent. However, people will question the value given it’s $1,000 more expensive than the non-Breeze version.
It has almost the same quality as the Contour Elite, but it will definitely sleep cooler. Some may question whether the additional $1,000 is worth it for the benefit that you get.

Tempur-Pedic is built upon a memory foam originally designed for the NASA space program in the 1970’s and 80’s. The engineers behind the design took the formula and reconfigured it to meet their ideas of applying it as a comfortable sleep surface.
The patented Tempur memory foam formula is under lock and key, but is an open celled, viscoelastic polyurethane foam that provides the popular ‘sink’ that so many people love when they lay upon it. Tempur-pedic applies multiple layers of varying foam densities to create different comfort levels ranging from extra soft to firm sleeping surfaces with everything in between.
Foam mattresses are constructed using a layering technique that provides varying layers of Tempur foam for comfort, and layers of supportive poly, or innerspring construction for shape and lift. This also provides increased airflow and allows for subtle firmness comfort levels.
Foam quality is determined by density, and measures as pound per cubic foot. The more dense the foam, the higher the quality, and the slower the overall conforming sink. A general quality foam falls between the 3.0 and 5.0 pound range, and Tempur foam begins their measurements at 4.1 lbs and only goes up from there, making them a high quality product. There different foams are as follows:
A high density, 7.1lb/cu.ft foam used in most of their Flex and Contour mattresses as the initial layer. Mostly used in their more firm mattress choices. Highly-conforming formulation of TEMPUR material delivers the most precise support.
A 5.3lb/cu.ft. foam used on almost all their mattresses as either a first, or second supportive layer.
This extra soft foam is a 4.1lbs/cu.ft. weight is used in the Cloud series of mattress, the softest choices the company offers. Softer formulation of TEMPUR material delivers a balance of soft comfort with responsive support.
Tempurpedic claims that their products will “change the way you sleep”, and emerged as a forerunner of memory foam sleep products in the 1990’s. A good night’s rest free from aches and pains is something everyone strives to achieve and the TEMPUR line of mattresses focus on the comfort and slow, sinking contouring of memory foam for a personalized rest each night.
Motion transfer from one side of the bed to the next is greatly reduced through the use of foam, and the popular reviews surround the soft enveloping feel that gives a weightless effect to your body while you sleep. Side sleepers seem to get the most comfort out of this particular softness level, and praise the lack of pressure points through their hips and shoulders.
Despite the elevated price of the Breeze version of this mattress, hardly any reviews mention anything different concerning temperature control in comparison to the original (which sleeps hot for heavier sleepers). In fact, they seem fairly comparable if you exclude the extra price.
Those who found discomfort with the mattress dealt mostly with how quickly it breaks down over time and it seems the life of the foam is only about five years, after which the top layers seem to compress to the point that there is no longer any support. This may create pressure points and poor spinal alignment.
Again, these issues surround the densities of the foam. Lower densities over time will compress more, whereas higher density foams will compress less- and provide more bounce back for longer. And since all body types are different, different body weights will also affect your mattress life. Higher density foams can support heavier body types for longer.
The SmartClimate system built into the mattress cover is created with moisture wicking fibers that help move body heat away from the body. This is supposed to create the coolest sleep possible, but since the company has another line of mattresses that addresses ‘hot’ sleepers, they definitely have further technology to keep you cool at night.
Tempurpedic has a pretty high complaint rate of heat retention in comparison to other competitive brands, and this model in particular seems to be too hot for heavier body types due to how the foam surrounds the body, creating less breathability. It would seem the softer the top, the more issues that arise with this particular problem, understandably so.
Also, the entire Breeze line of mattresses are created with an extra cooling system. In theory this is supposed to help transfer heat away from the body and dissipate it through the foam layers. A cooler sleeping surface, and a cooling comfort you can feel at work, is the main focus of the design, but in this particular mattress there have been almost no feedback pertaining to this particular process.
It should be noted though that the Tempurpedic company has a pretty high complaint rate of heat retention on a whole compared to comparable brands, but there are few complaints surrounding this particular model. So perhaps the technology is well at work and not worth mentioning since it’s doing the job you are paying for.
For at least 18% of owners, Tempur-Pedic mattresses relieve or even eliminate pain that one may experience both in and out of bed. Relief of back, shoulder, hip and joint pain are commonly noted. While all Tempur-Pedic models perform well overall for relieving pain, the high density Contour models likely provide at least slightly better pain relief than the other models especially for people over 160 pounds. This means that the sleeper may sink into the foam to some extent and that the foam may adapt, contour and mold to the sleeper’s body. This can make moving on the bed / changing positions and getting up off the bed difficult as at least 15% of owners report the problem. Those owners who change positions frequently, are weak from sickness or injury, or are elderly have the most complaints regarding movement difficulty. The Flex models tend to provide less movement resistance than Contour & Cloud models.
Memory foam mattresses in general, including Tempur-Pedic, localize and absorb motion. This allows a person to move around on or get up off the bed without the other person being much disturbed or disturbed at all by the movement. Tempur-Pedic’s use of higher-density foam in many of its models may give it an edge in motion isolation over its less-dense competition. At least 20% of Tempur-Pedic owners praise the mattress for having good-to-excellent motion isolation. It should also be noted that motion transfer usually cannot be fully eliminated due to the use of shared linens.
Offgassing is reported by nearly one in five Tempurpedic owners. This proves higher than average for both memory foam and other types of beds. Some mattresses produce a chemical odor as a result of the manufacturing and packaging processes. These chemicals can be a problem for people with sensitivities. Tempurpedic beds tend to have higher than average complaints here.
The brand has been changing their mattresses a little every year recently, so information on long-term use isn’t widely available for the newest lines. Available information suggests the beds have a lifespan similar to their older models, which is about seven to eight years. The average mattress lasts about 7 years, so there are no significant problems here other than some reports of premature sagging (about 1 in 10 owners, versus 1 in 5 for innersprings).
