Everyone knows that a good night’s sleep is partly dependent on having the right pillow. However, the choice isn’t as straightforward as just grabbing any pillow off the shelf; we need to find the one that perfectly aligns with our individual needs and preferences. So, what’s the best approach to choosing the right pillow?

Pillows come in all shapes and forms, you just need to find the one that is comfortable for you. Do you prefer a big, fluffy pillow or a pillow that will support your neck? Can this pillow be filled with feathers, or are you allergic? Some of the factors that will help you find the perfect pillow are your head size, weight, the position that you sleep in and your shoulder width. Once you determine these, you should consider which material to choose, how moldable the pillow should be, how high and, of course, to set a budget.

Choosing the right pillow can be daunting, this is why we are going to go over some of the factors that we have determined people look to while choosing a pillow. Our list is based on verified user experience and thorough market research.

Need help choosing a pillow? Read our comprehensive buying guide and find our top 11 picks based on our own testing and customer experience.

The Eden from Coop Home Goods

One of the reasons the Eden made it onto this list is because of its gel-infused foam and a cover that is made from bamboo rayon. This means it is much colder than some of the other models on this list. Some of the reviewers noted that foam pillows lose their shape pretty fast, but the Eden does not. It has a polyester lining, that is machine washable and easy to maintain.

source: coophomegoods.com

The other reason that the Eden is mentioned here is the adjustable loft. Customers can add or remove the height of the pillow, and the firmness, so that it fits their needs perfectly. This may result in a decrease in neck or shoulder pain.

You can find this product at Coop Home Goods. They offer a bundle deal; two mattress sheets and two pillows, in any dimension for a lower price. They also provide a 100-day sleep warranty, as we all know, you can not check the quality of a pillow or a mattress if you have not spent a couple of nights on it.

This pillow is good for all types of sleepers, from side sleepers to stomach sleepers. Also, all weight groups can rest easy with this pick. It can relieve neck pain and shoulder issues. The best part is the customizable loft, which works best for the sleeper who changes their pillow height preference.

There are some sleepers that prefer to change the way they sleep from night tonight. Sometimes you prefer a flat surface and sometimes not. The Tempur-Symphony is a bit on the pricey side, but it makes up for it with its durability. Its foam filling is more than capable of lasting a number of seasons and it never loses its shape. With this in mind, it is also quite moldable which is great for those restless nights.

Tempur-Pedic has shipping, free of charge in the U.S. and this pillow has a warranty of five years, which is above average.

This pillow works for all sleepers’ groups (side sleepers, back sleepers, stomach sleepers), but it is more recommended for light or average weight sleeper groups. The cover is made from materials designed to chill which are a breathable blend of rayon from bamboo and part polyester. An average lifespan of a latex pillow, in years, is three, which puts the Talalay in the ‘’more durable latex pillow’’ category.

Luxe Pillow

As there are many sleepers that prefer a soft pillow, we have the Luxe pillow. It is filled with down, which means it has the little soft feathers of geese and ducks. The Luxe is divided into three parts. The middle parts consist of waterfowl feathers, and it has additional two chambers on the side. They are filled with goose down fill. The cover is designed to be machine washable and made of cotton, as well as not to let any material out of the pillow. The piped edges of the pillow ensure this.

source: luxepillow.com

As most pillows filled with down, the height of the pillow is medium, and it is considered to be soft. If you enjoy sinking into your pillow at night and having it support your shoulders and neck that way, this is the pillow for you. You would think that it is not cooling if it is so soft, but that is not true. The cotton flow is well-designed to allow excellent air flow. Lastly, one of the bigger benefits of getting this pillow is that it is eco-friendly.

The Luxe can be bought in a Standard and a King size. The sleep trial is one hundred days and the company offer returns to all customers, and shipping covered by them.

The loft of the pillow can also be customized to the needs of the sleeper.

Organic Cotton/PLA Pillow from Naturepedic

Cotton is a fabric that is bellowed by almost everyone. We choose our underwear to be cotton so why should our pillows be different. It is breathable and lightweight which makes it perfect for a cool night’s sleep. Organic Cotton from Naturepedic is a perfect example of a pillow that will keep you at an average temperature all night. The pillow contains cotton batting that is plant-based and organic. MyPillow Premium

Polyfoam has been on the rise since its invention. It is good for matrices, so why not pillows?  As it fits us perfectly night in and night out, it was a logical progression of the manufacturing industry. And the best part of the polyform is that it adapts to the sleeper’s height preference, and this is where Premium from My Pillow comes in. It comes in four colored lofts which are Green, White, Blue and Yellow.

source: mypillow.com

As we all want a cool pillow, and not in a sense that it is popular in high school, the Premium has a cover made of cotton which is in a shape of a ring, and also an interior that allows air to flow freely. As polyfoam is quite moldable, but this does not bounce back as quickly as it could, especially if it is wet, simply place it in the dryer or on a radiator and wait 20 mins for it to maintain its original shape.

And yet it still gets better, with the price of the Premium MyPillow coming in at about 20$, it has a sixty-day trail and a warranty of ten years.

It works best for people who sleep on the side and on the back, also it doesn’t matter what weight you have, it comforts all the groups. Shoulder pain and neck pain can be prevented by using this pillow, as well as people that usually feel warm when they sleep.

Layla Pillow

Memory foam can be shredded and not just in one piece. This type of filling is reviewed as one of the best for more than your regular pressure relief pillow. The Layla pillow is filled with this type of filling but it has an upper hand on other pillows with the same filling. It has implemented fibers of a tree caller Kapok, to provide more of a cushioning feel. It has a polyester cover filled with copper strains, which helps increase blood flow. If this sounds like this cover will make you sweat, but that is not correct, as these materials distribute temperature well which means you will be cool as a cucumber.

source: laylasleep.com

If you are a snuggler, this pillow will fit you perfectly as it is extremely moldable. The material blend is more odor resistant than other materials and it doesn’t need to be cleaned as often.

Layla covers shipping all over U.S., Canada, and Alaska. Although the shipping to Canada and Alasca is 20$, shipping in the U.S. is free. It has a sleep trail of one hundred and twenty days and a warranty of five years.

If you are a combination sleeper or sleep on your back or side, this pillow would work great. It also accommodates light and average weight sleepers and those who are warm while they sleep.

Snuggle-Pedic Bamboo from Relief Mart

Snuggle-Pedic Bamboo is best known for keeping you cool and not overheating, even compared to other pillows filled with shredded foam. The cover is made from bamboo rayon, which is a known material for temperature control. The airflow in the interior is well made, and it helps distribute body heat while you sleep.

source: snugglepedic.com

The loft is customizable, which means it can accommodate all the height preferences. Although, when you receive the pillow, it is sealed, which means if you want to adjust the loft you need to send it back to the store so that they can fix it and send it back to you. This action is unlimited and free of charge to all who have purchased the Snuggle-Pedic. It is relatively cheap for a pillow who offers so much, and it is designed to help you prevent pain in the shoulders and neck.

The shipping doesn’t cost a thing, and it is available to all the states in the U.S. There is a hundred- and twenty-night test and a warranty of twenty years. Wow, now that is a time period that can cover a big part of a lifetime.

All sleepers say that this pillow has worked in their favor, no matter the position they sleep in or their weight. Also, it has been noted that this pillow helps with pain relief and temperature control while you sleep. Both of which are important while choosing a pillow.

What Do You Need to Know About Pillows?

As we all know, pillows are an essential part of our lives. We sit on them, lean on them and most importantly we sleep on them. A pillow is generally what we think of when going to bed. But how much does a shape and size of pillow influence our sleep? A lot actually. There is a fairytale in which a princess could not sleep as there was a pea under her mattress, and this may sound ridiculous in reality, but getting a pillow that does not fit our standards may just be that little detail that keeps us from falling asleep.

There are several factors that make up a pillow. The first factor is the material that the pillow is made from. It can be a blend of a number of materials, like polyester, down, latex, cotton or foam. It can also be buckwheat as well as other organic eco-friendly options. All of these materials can make or break a preference towards a pillow as the material is connected with other factors, such as the thickness of the pillow, also known as loft. The loft is critical in deciding which pillow to choose, as a too high or too low loft can cause shoulder, back and head pain.

Another factor that has an influence on whether a particular pillow will match your preferences or not is the size. Pillows come in six different sizes which we will explore in the further text.

Let us dive into the wondrous world of pillows and see what it has to offer. This text will explore all the options from which to choose from and provide you with guidelines on how to pick what is right for you.

Pillow Sizes

Ok, so are there more than one size that I can get at the store? Yes. When you are shopping for a pillow there is no ‘’one size fits all’’. There are six types of sizes for pillows: Body Pillow, Euro, King, Queen, Super Standard, and Standard. All of them have a pillowcase size that corresponds with their size, and it is usually one or two inches wider than the pillow itself.

Body Pillows are mostly targeted at sleepers that like to hold something when they sleep. These are best if they are made of a material that cools and that is moldable. They are also great to keep your body on one side, which comes in handy for side sleepers and women that are pregnant.

Euro pillows can come in different sizes actually, but there is a general guideline that there are square shaped. This makes it perfect for reading a book in bed or looking at a film on a tablet. It is called the Euro as people in Europe mostly use this type of pillow.

The King size pillow is like a King size mattress. It is bigger and good for people that sleep in all types of positions during the night. There is extra room on both sides. This makes this pillow a great bed rest for people that sit up in bed.

The Queen size is also like the Queen size mattress. It is not as big as the King but it is bigger than the Super Standard. There is more than enough room for your head and for tossing and turning during the night.

Super Standard pillows are more in line with the standard size but it is longer. This is good for using the pillow as bedrest and if you are not a still sleeper.

Standard is the pillow you see in all the sores. It is the most sold and the pillow made most often. They are compact and the shortest of all the options. Sometimes the Euro can be smaller but as we noted, the standard is not usually square. Usually, they are the least expensive version of all the pillow sizes. So, if you have a twin or a full-size mattress, one of these would work just fine. But for a bigger mattress as a King or a Queen, you would need two to cover the range on the bed.

Pillow Loft

is the filling that is inside the pillow. It determines a lot of factors like thickness, height, and softness of a pillow. All of these weigh in on how good you can sleep on it and how comfortable it is for you. While picking a pillow, note that there are different types of the loft. There are the Low loft pillows not that thick, three inches or less. There are Medium loft pillows that are in between five and three inches. And lastly, there are high loft pillows that have a thickness higher than five inches.

As is life, most of the sleepers prefer a middle-sized loft, but there are always exceptions, and these exceptions have a right to chose the pillow they desire.

If you are not sure which loft fits you just right, giving you ultimately a better sleep dynamic, please see some of the following factors that will guide you to a good decision:

  • Type of Mattress: There are some mattresses that are designed to let you sink into them like latex or foam. If you like this feeling, a low-loft pillow would work best in the combination with the mattress. If, however, you like a firm mattress, something that has springs or other types of mattresses that don’t give you that sinking feeling, a mid to high loft pillow would work best. Always look to your mattress for guides when buying a pillow, as if the two clash, there is no returning to a peaceful night of sleep.
  • Body type: As with clothes, the pillow we use needs to fit our body and our build. One of the more important body parts to look out for is the head. Larger or heavier heads usually tend to prefer a bigger loft because of the extra filling which provides support. On the other hand, smaller heads prefer a smaller loft, as they don’t require so much support. Shoulder width is an important guideline as well, in choosing a loft. Shoulders that are wider tend to need more loft to relieve pressure and give support.
  • Weight group: Weight groups can prefer different types of loft, which makes sense as per the difference in needed support. Sleepers that are in the heavier weight group, 230 pounds and up, tend to lean toward the lower level of loft, because of the position of the head and being closer to the mattress. People in the lighter weight group, which is 130 pounds or less, look for a pillow which has more loft, as their head is not so close to the mattress. The weight group in between prefers a medium level loft, which consistent with the pattern shown above.
  • The position of the pillow: There a numerous position a sleeper prefers to sleep in. Some of the people prefer to put their hand under the pillow while sleeping. These people usually get a pillow that is low on loft or medium, as the height of their hand compensates for the height. This may differ if you sleep on your back or on the side. The level of loft needs to be as high as the gap between you and the mattress to prevent any neck and back pain.
  • The position of sleep: Lastly, the position we sleep in is one of the most important factors in choosing a loft. If you sleep on your back, you would prefer a medium loft pillow, as it provides a synergy between thickness and softness. If you sleep on your side, you would need more space between the pillow and your head. This is achieved by getting a pillow that is between a high loft and a medium loft. If you sleep on your stomach, you may not even need a pillow. But those who sleep on the stomach do prefer a low to a low-medium loft to give them some sort of separation from the mattress.

All of these are categories that overlap with one another. One of the most important ways to see which loft you prefer is to see how much space you have in between you and your bed. If you are not sure, there are options to buy a pillow that is customizable, which will allow you to experiment and find the perfect amount of loft for you. Finding the perfect amount of loft will help you with any shoulder pain, back pain, and even snoring.

Types of pillows

As we have gone through all the shapes and sizes of pillows, let’s see what is the stuff that makes them pillows, or professionally said, what is the material that makes them up. Down below we will list some of the most commonly sold pillow types, their pros and cons, and a short description to help you chose your perfect pillow.

Polyfoam and polyester
As you can see from the name, the polyester pillow is filled with fibers made from polyester. The loft most commonly ranges from a mid to a high loft, but there are stores that offer a loft made of polyester that is lower. The benefits of this pillow are that they are usually not pricy. An average model is between 9$ to 16$ and they can be found in almost all the stores that have pillows. Another benefit is that, as polyester is a material that is not organic, it is hypoallergenic, which makes it perfect for those sleepers that have trouble with allergies during sleep. Benefit number three is that it is hard to get dirty and it usually has no odor. Lastly, they are low maintenance, which means there is little effort to fluff them and shake them to get them back in their original form. Some of the cons of this pillow are that they are not as durable as some of the other options, also they are not suited for those who tend to sleep hot. They absorb a lot of temperatures and they are reported as being heavy and quite noisy.

Organic and natural
Pillows made from natural materials with no man-made components are considered to be ‘’natural or organic’’. Cotton is one of these materials, as well as silk, wool or any of these mixes. There is also latex that is organic, which makes it a part of this group of pillows. Some of the benefits of these type of pillows are that they have a reputation of being extremely soft and comfortable. Man-made materials don’t have the same texture as these types of materials which gives them an edge in being known as more supportive and comfier. Secondly, these materials tend to have better air circulation which gives them the option of temperature control and cooling. On the other hand, getting a pillow that is made of natural materials is not cheap. They can go up to 150$, and even 500$. As well as being expensive, they are harder to find than polyester pillows which are available almost everywhere.

Memory foam
As we all love something to caress us and makes us feel like it was made just for us, memory foam was invented. It comforts us by making an impression of our head and keeping it at a certain level above the mattress. There are two kinds of memory foam, a pillow filled with foam fibers that are shredded and the other type is a pillow made from one piece of foam. There are all types of lofts available for this type of pillow, also all sizes. The pros of this pillow are that it gives us support and firmness at the same time, which has been linked to the release of pressure and pain. Also, this type of pillow is great for side sleepers and back sleepers, as they provide the support needed. They are easy to get and make almost zero noise. The bad news is that it can get quite filled with smells, for up to a couple of days, when you unbox the pillow. As well as this, these pillows can get expensive, hitting the price to about 65$.

Latex
Latex is an organic material, found in nature, mostly in tree bark. It is made as such to be comfortable and fluffy. Like memory foam, it clings close to the head and shoulders, providing pressure relief and comfort. The loft on these pillows can be high or in the middle, also they have wary from soft to thick. Pros are that these types of pillows are linked to the higher percent of pain resolution as per their supporting abilities. One of the best properties of this pillow is that it keeps it shape for a long, long time. This means that it is more durable than some of the other types, as well as being quiet and not letting sound escape their realm. But where there is an up, there is a down, and the downside is that these pillows are costlier, coming at 59$ a piece. Also, they are considered to be flexible and have a bounce to them, so if you prefer a soft pillow that doesn’t move much, this may bother you. Lastly, sometimes they can smell of rubber, being that latex is made in a similar way.

Feather
Feather and down are not the same material. The down is actually below the feathers, making the barrier between the skin and feathers. These feathers are mostly duck and goose. Sometimes, the feathers are mixed with a small portion of down, but mostly not. Due to the material, these pillows are mostly a lower height. There are benefits to this pillow, as it is quite soft, light and flexible. They are cooling as feather are designed not to absorb hot temperatures. Being that this is a natural resource, these pillows usually have a longer lifespan than other types of pillows as well as being less costly than down filled pillows. Although, as these are feathers crammed into a fabric cover, they may get out sometimes and scratch a sleeper that is on it. There is a distinct crunch when you move it and there is a specific smell that is linked to a feather filling. Lastly, shaping the pillow may take more effort than usual as feathers are not that moldable.

Down
Plumage that is collected from geese and ducks is called down. It is the layer of small features that is beneath the bigger feathers. It is known for being soft and comfortable. Seventy-five percent of down is needed in order to put a pillow in the ‘’down’’ group. Other twenty-five percents can be a feather filling or other. The ups of the down pillow are as stated that is comfortable for most sleepers as per the combination of flexibility, curve to the head and the lightness of it. They can get warm but this may be a plus in winter and in the colder parts of the world. They last for a long time and they don’t need to be molded to be comfy. The cons of this type of pillow are that they are costly, up to two hundred dollars and they are mostly not high, so they can’t fit all types of sleepers. Sometimes, they are needed to be adjusted which means they need to be shaken to give you the relaxation you need. Lastly, as they are a natural ingredient, they are not antimicrobial which means that sleepers who are prone to allergies would be best to avoid this type of pillow.

Down Alternatives
As down can be fabricated, we have down alternatives. They are actually polyester which is made to be like down. Most reviews say that there is no notable difference in the comfort of the two, but there are some benefits to the alternatives that down pillows don’t have, such as that they are hypoallergenic. Also, they are not as expensive as real down pillows, but they still mimics the softness, break-in period and flexibility of pillows made with real down. However, the alternative down is not as long lasting as the real thing, and it can increase the pressure on sensitive areas such as neck. Another downside is that it can lose its shape easily and it requires shaping and fluffing on a daily basis.

Buckwheat
Buckwheat is a filling that is like grain but more of the outer shell of a grain seed. It is hollow and organic. Five to ten pounds are in one pillow of buckwheat. Using this type of pillow has several advantages, such as great support for the head and shoulders, and possible customization so that it can fit all types of sleepers. These pillows provide relief from pain and aches, and they don’t retain body temperature. However, they can cost up to a hundred dollars per piece and are quite heavy, which can be a problem for some customers. Side sleepers can find it difficult to adjust these pillows because of their density.

Comparison

Looking over all these types of pillows, their shapes, sizes, weights etc. let’s see how they compare to each other.
When you look at the average price of a pillow, there is a notable difference in the organic and non-organic material prices. The cheapest is polyester, which starts at about 9$ and goes to 16$, next is a down alternative, which also being man-made ranges between 20$ to 30$. The most expensive are organic down which is up to a 100$ and pillows made from natural and organic materials which can be more than 150$.
The next category is durability. Buckwheat, feather and down are rated as most durable, where memory foam, natural and organic ingredients, and down alternative fall into the average range of durability. The lowest score of durability has polyester which might be linked to the price point of this pillow.

Support is the third factor that we should consider. Rated as the best are buckwheat, latex, memory foam and organic materials. After that, a category lower are the down pillows and feather pillows. Lastly, rated as ok are the down alternative and polyester.

The fourth category is the smell. The best rated are the man-made materials like polyester and down alternative, while the worst rated are feather and memory foam.

Category number five is temperature control. The pillows that excel here are those made with down buckwheat, down alternative, feather, latex and natural ingredients. The worst rated are memory foam pillows.

The weight of a pillow is the next criteria. The best performers were down and down alternative, while the lowest scores were given to buckwheat, latex and memory foam.

Next, we have rated maintenance as a category in which the best were buckwheat, latex and memory foam and the worst were feathers and polyester.
Let’s note the following as well. The pillows that are washable are down alternative and polyester, while memory foam and feathers can be washed sometimes. Buckwheat, down, latex and natural ingredients are not washable.
Adjustable loft comes for buckwheat, and sometimes for memory foam and natural ingredients. It is not adjustable for down, down alternative, feathers, latex, and polyester.
While the availability of the buckwheat, down alternative, feather, latex and natural ingredient pillows is limited, the availability of the down, memory foam and polyester is quite wide.

In conclusion:

Let’s recap all the points that need to be checked before spending our hard-earned cash on a pillow.
What size of the pillow do you need? Look at your mattress and your sleeping habits. Do you sleep in one spot or do you toss and turn during the night? Determine the size of the pillow that would suit you the best based on these things.
How high does your pillow need to be? Do you sleep on your stomach, back, side, or are you a combination sleeper? Which weight category do you fall into? Also, don’t forget to ask yourself if you need the pillow to sit up, lean on and read a book etc.
Finally, what type of pillow do you need? Do you have any allergies? are you always hot in bed? Do you need a firm or a soft pillow? Do you have any pain in your neck, shoulders, or back? Always take the durability, mobility and the warranty of the product into consideration and see if it matches your expectations.

Imagine this scenario. You’ve just moved into your brand new apartment, and you’re filled with excitement about replacing that old mattress from your college dormitory days. You reach out to your friends and family for recommendations on finding a soft, comfortable mattress (yes, it’s finally time to indulge in that perfect bed for those never-ending days at work). But here’s the twist – their advice keeps varying from “This one will do wonders for your back” to “that one’s perfect if you like sleeping on your side.” And there you stand, bewildered, wondering, “Wait, do I even have a preferred sleeping position? Important Things to Keep in Mind

The important factor for combination sleepers is that the spine is aligned with the pelvis and shoulders no matter if you sleep on your side, back or stomach otherwise misalignment will cause pain points, especially on neck, shoulders and lower back. Let’s look at some pros and cons to combination sleeping

  • Sleeping on the side is great for people who have pain in the back because sleeping on your shoulders and hips aligns the spine and lessen pressure point. Also, if you have a problem with snoring sleeping on the side will provide the best air flow. On the downside, in order to be more comfortable, you might need an extra pillow under legs specifically between your knees. The studies have shown that this position can cause facial wrinkles

  • Sleeping on the back promotes natural spine alignment, but people with bigger and heavier stomachs might experience hip or lower back pain because of uneven distribution for the weight in their mid-section. This position might increase symptoms of acid reflux

  • Sleeping on the stomach is not very recommended because it can cause pain and discomfort, especially in the neck. Also, it can cause the lower back and spine to strain due to high concentration weight in the mid-section.

How to Choose the Best Mattress for Combination Sleepers – Useful Tips

Alignment of the spine is vital to people who are changing positions during sleep so it is necessary to pay attention to mattress support. That’s the ability of a mattress to provide an even and flat surface that can conform in specific areas in order to provide proper alignment of the spine. Neither too firm nor too firm enough surfaces can lead to misalignment.

Firmness scale is measured from 1-10 (ten which is the firmest). Generally, most mattresses that are sold today are between Soft and Extra firm. The weight of the sleeper will determine suitable firmness. For example, a person who is the average weight will likely choose mattresses that can offer a golden middle, not too soft nor too firm, but choices for those who are above or below average are different.

Here are some recommendations for sleepers who like to change positions:

  • For those who weigh below 130 lb, the optimal firmness is Medium Soft (4) because people who weigh below average usually need a softer surface that will align their spine correctly and conform their body to a noticeable extent, but it won’t give that sink in feeling. Firmer mattresses can increase pressure and discomfort.
  • For those who weigh from 130-230 lb(average weight), the optimal firmness is Medium- Medium Firm (5,6) because people who have average weight usually need a surface that will align their spine correctly without sinking in too deeply and conform their body to some extent.
  • For those who weigh above 230 lb, the optimal firmness is Firm (7) because people who have above average weight usually need a surface that conforms their body a little bit but does not sink at all. Softer mattresses can cause big discomfort and pain during sleep.
  • Besides spinal alignment, it would be wise if combination sleepers pay attention to the construction, that is the materials used to make the mattresses. Some mattresses are made in a way that eases the pain pressure and conforms more than others. Also, the mattress construction can affect noise and odor potential, sleep temperature, price point and durability.

Also, for people who tend to sleep hot, this mattress will be a great option due to temperature neutrality that it offers and because of the gel grid, you will feel support and pain relief at the same time.

When it comes to sink in feel, the results are almost average and you don’t have to worry about the new mattress smell because they use materials that are 100 percent non toxic.

Even though the New Purple mattress is very durable due to a pocketed coil system with a polymer, it is recommended to use a mattress protector to prolong lifespan.

This could work for couples who are sensitive to their partner’s movement because of the maximum motion isolation.

Before You Make Any Purchase Decision – Check Out These Tips

Make sure you establish your budget – It is always wiser to create a budget before you go mattress hunting because salespersons job is to persuade you to buy a more expensive mattress. If you go unprepared, they might confuse you with a lot of questions that you didn’t even consider and then you will suddenly think you need something, while in fact, that is just their influence talking through you.
Don’t get me wrong, they don’t mean you harm, in fact, they might offer you a mattress that is great for your needs, but you should keep in mind that at the end of the day, all they want is to make a sale that is their job.

Do your homework before you go – Most mattresses from $1000 to more and a bed for one person can cost less than $100 and go up to $5000 or more. So, do your research and compare the prices of different mattresses at home. This will give you enough time to consider your needs and your price range. When you plan your budget make sure you add numbers to your budget because some brands don’t offer free delivery or if they do, they might charge extra if you live in a remote area or shipping if it’s made overseas.

Understand the terms and conditions of sleep trial and warranty
(yes, that includes fine print)

In most cases, mattress brands have a sleep trial policy. That means you can purchase the product you wish and you have a specific amount of time to return it (usually around 90 nights sometimes more). Sounds great I know, but there is a catch.
They won’t tell this, you but sometimes they have 30 nights break in that is mandatory, that means if you return it before that time, you won’t get the full refund. It is always written in the fine prints, so make sure you read them carefully, especially when it comes to warranty.

Typically, you get a warranty that is non prorated which means if you notice some damage or defect on your mattress, you can get it repaired with minimum or no cost at all. So, make sure you ask about the length of your non prorated warranty because once it expires you will have to pay a percentage of the retail price of the mattress if you want to repair it and the percentage is getting higher and higher each year.
Read the warranty thoroughly, from beginning to the end, to make sure you understand the length of the coverage since most brands do promise long length warranty but the coverage only lasts a couple of years.

Be prepared and go get yourself a cozy mattress that won’t make your wallet cry!

Blankets are a fundamental item found in every household, often used for numerous purposes. But, did you realize there are various types of blankets? Each kind has its own unique use, and in this conversation, we are going to explore a particular type of blankets. Let’s delve into the world of throw blankets together.

First of all, since blankets were invented with an idea to be thrown over the body, to cover it and keep it warm, you may think that all blankets are throw ones, but that is not the case. Throw blankets are not referring to those large, snuggly blankets we use to wrap up ourselves while napping or sleeping. The name stands for all medium-size models, with dimensions around 50 x 60 inches, since they tend to be more decorative, stylish, with a specific pattern or design, and they always have the edged borderline. For some, a good throw blanket represents an endeared possession that offers comfort and warmth in any part of their home, and thus, it can also enhance the room’s decor by adding a bright splash of color. They are also known as “style makers” because their beautiful colors, textures, and patterns give that sophisticated décor elegance and character to your room.

Before we jump into our suggestions of best throw models, we would like to point out a few other things that you should consider.

Why Use a Throw Blanket?

Since this is not your average blanket, and it should be on display most of the time, the question is, do you need it? Is it functional enough, will you even use it or will it just be there all pretty, collecting dust? Since that is the case with most eye-catching home products, here is our list of reasons why investing in a throw blanket could be a good thing.

  • They could save your furniture and linens. If you have a house full of kids, or pets, or both, you know how things can get messy in no time, hence the throw blankets can be that essential barrier that will keep your new beige sofa or leather furniture free from any spills, scratches, and all sorts of accidents. If you already have some imperfections, you can cleverly use a blanket to hide it. You can put them strategically on chair backs, on the end of your guest bed, on ottomans, or worn out sofas, literally anywhere.
  • They will make the room seem more homey and warm. Even with just one throw blanket folded on the edge of your couch, your room will immediately look cozier and inviting, especially during the cold months. Since the most preferred are the furry ones, gentle and silky to the touch, they will provide that dash of luxury to your home, making it look a little bit more extra.
  • They add texture and color. If you are a minimalist and like to keep things simple and monochromatic, but with a little twist, these blankets could be the perfect accessory which will transform the space. Since they come in all colors, patterns, designs, they can fit in every corner of your house. Simple bedding can get a more personal look if you add a throw blanket, fold it neatly, lengthwise and drape it across the end of the bed. They are also easy to store and bring out later or to rotate around the house.
  • Easy maintenance. Since these blankets are medium-size and lightweight, they are much easier to wash and dry. Most of them are suitable for machine washing and will be no need to bother with manual spot-cleaning.
  • Inexpensive update. If you are bored with your old throw blanket and want a new one, you can easily afford it. If your pet’s claws ruin your furniture, that replacement will be a lot pricier; hence, it is safer and cheaper to invest in throw blankets.

Buying Guide

Although these blankets can be pretty multifunctional, perhaps you should pay attention to some of their features to find the right one for the purpose you have on your mind. Our guide will introduce you to different available materials and other features that should have an impact on your final decision.

  • First, to solve the dilemma and make things clear, blankets and throw blankets are not the same. Standard blankets are a part of your regular bedding line, while throw ones are more seen as a part of your home decor, and usually, the accent is not so much on their functionality as it is on their appearance.
  • We already mentioned that their size is smaller than the one of a standard blanket, but bear in mind that not all throw blankets come in the same size. Mostly they are all around 50 x 60 inches, but if you have any specific dimensions on your mind, make sure to check that out.
  • Thickness and warmth are also features that can vary from one blanket to another. Lightweight ones made from cotton or polyester are more appropriate for summer months, while the ones made from wool, down, knit, or fleece, are thicker and hence more suitable for winter months.
  • Most of these blankets are suitable for machine washing, but some can be dry cleaned only, so read the declaration carefully. Usually, models made from cotton, polyester, and linen can be washed in a machine, while natural materials such as down and wool require high maintenance. Rarely you will find some that are not meant for washing at all, and they have to be spot cleaned.
  • People who suffer from allergies have to be extra careful with everything, especially with things that come in touch with their skin. We advise them to seek models which claim to have hypoallergenic features, or they do not contain any potentially harmful materials.
  • If you tend to overheat even while napping on your couch, a throw blanket made from natural materials such as wool, cotton, or silk, should be your choice because it will not cause you to sweat or overheat.
  • The type of throw determines its other features such as the weave, look, material, and cleaning. For example, decorative throws come with eye-catching patterns and unique design, but they will not be so warm or easy to maintain. Fleece is a popular material for throws because it is soft and warm, but it cannot provide the variety of patterns. A particular type of throws are heated throws, which are heavier, but they are all about warming you up and keeping you cozy.
  • Electric throw blankets are also available, but they contain coiled wires which heat up when they are connected with power, and just like any other electronic device, they can be the cause of the fire. Also, it is not recommended to use them on sofas or couches; it is best to use them only on certain beds, which is why today we will not be discussing them.
  • The best choice of material depends on how you plan to use your throw. If it is just for the decor, then the breathability, warmth, and coziness are not categories which should have an impact on your choice. However, if you expect from your throw to perform well and be functional, then the fleece is the material for you. Fleece is made of polyester, and it is incredibly comfortable and warm, microfiber throws are very similar, but they are more plushy, while flannel throws are made for brushed cotton which gives the fabric more loft and tepidity. There are also throws made of different blends of materials mentioned above. Linen throws are not so soft or plush, they are more cooling and feel heavier. Wool is also known for its temperature regulation, and these blankets usually contain it. Another excellent material with cooling properties is down, whether it is coming from geese or ducks, down remains cold for a long time, but it is also more expensive. Faux fur is a pretty popular material for throws due to its luxury appeal and warmth.
  • Weave impacts the performance and appearance of a blanket. If it is tightly sewn, it can trap heat and moisture, which will cause you to sweat. So depending on how you plan to use it, take a look at the weave type.
  • Throws are often used to add a pop of color, to freshen up a piece of old furniture, or to cover up imperfections and stains, hence the broad range of available colors and patterns will allow you to transform the appearance of your home effortlessly and inexpensively. Flannel Sheets Buying Guide

Flannel sheets are an excellent option if you want to stay warm at night. Before buying them, you should consider several things to make the right choice. Essential factors that affect the quality are the production manner and material performance. But, first let’s introduce you to the history of flannel.

If we look back at its origins, we will find that flannel fabric originates from Scotland and Wales around the year 1500. Obviously, those are cold climate areas, and at that time, there was no central heating, so no wonder this warm material made of wool was appreciated for its effect. The way of processing made it tightly woven and heavy, and the way of brushing and detangling made it soft to the touch. It was first used for clothes and later for bedding and blankets as well. The advanced technology and invention of carding mills during the Industrial Revolution helped the softening process get even more efficient, thus adding to the popularity of flannel fabric. As it spread to the USA, cotton became the material of choice for flannel materials there, because of a vast production of cotton. Flannel became a brand for the working class at that time, and later, in the 1950s, it advanced to more sophisticated clothes, such as suits. Ultimately, with the invention of synthetics, flannel materials were produced from synthetic fibers, as well. Today, they are made of wool, cotton, synthetic, or a blend of any of the mentioned fibers.

Fiber Material

Apart from other features that determine the performance of flannel, which we will mention later, the fibers it is made from obviously have the biggest impact on the quality of the material, which in turn impacts your sleep. Even if people started producing flannel only from wool, it would be too expensive to be sold widely, and it is not fashionable anymore for the production of sheets. It may still be preferred in the production of blankets, duvets, and mattresses for its extreme warmth, but wool flannel sheets are now rare and mostly made to order.

Cotton has taken the position of the most popular flannel material because it is also natural but costs less. It also wicks moisture and retains heat, and it is very comfortable. However, cotton sheets are prone to shrinking when made from 100% cotton, so the right measures need to be taken into consideration before buying, comprising the percentage of shrinkage stated in the labels. Also, natural cotton does not mean organic, so if you are environmentally conscious and want to avoid chemicals at all cost, you should pay attention to this.

Weaving

Weaving method also determines the quality of cotton. Percale is cotton weaved in a plain manner and has a matte appearance. It is durable but prone to wrinkling. Sateen is made by a loser weaving method, which makes it softer and less wrinkle-prone. However, it impacts its durability and can cause pilling. Twill is woven in a diagonal manner, thus being more durable and water-resistant. Jersey is a way of knitting flat vertical threads, providing a feeling of softness and stretchy fabric. But, being a knitted material, its threads tend to “run” if broken.

Synthetic flannel sheets are often the variant of microfiber because its fine fibers ensure the softness. The polyester fibers are tightly woven, which makes synthetic sheets durable and soft, even if they do not provide the same feeling as natural materials.

A blend of cotton and synthetic seems to be the most desirable option since it is soft and warm like cotton, but more durable and easier to care for.

Thread Count

When assessing the quality of flannel sheets, thread count is not the measure, but the weaving manner, texture, and weight stated in grams per square meter are. The heavier the fabric, the warmer the sheet. Generally, 170 grams per square meter is the weight that ensures a high quality of flannel, but also a high price.

Softness

One of the main reasons for choosing flannel sheets is their softness. The surface of flannel is raised by brushing, which helps create a plush feeling and adds softness. It also makes the sheet warm because it retains body heat. The best flannel is napped on both sides. Flannel can also remain unbrushed, but then it loses part of its softness.

Flannel is breathable, it does not trap moisture, won’t cause overheating, and it wicks moisture away. It is also durable because of the way it is tightly woven.

Fine VS Bulky Flannel

A point to consider here is whether the flannel is fine or bulky. Fine flannels are durable while bulky flannels are known to shed and pill, so think carefully about your preferences.

Color Pattern

After considering all the mentioned facts, the only thing left is to choose a color and pattern of your flannel sheet. You can pick from a variety of colors and prints, but the selection is not as wide as with other sheets. Some brands only offer solid colors, while others have different prints such as stripes, checks, and flowers. When it comes to colors, you should keep in mind that darker sheets are colored with heavy dyes, and they will fade over time.

Origin

Prior to deciding, you might also consider the origin of your flannel sheet. According to some estimates, Portugal produces the best flannel in the world as they have a tradition of crafting flannel from long-staple cotton fibers. They have been producing it for generations, improving its weave and the manner of brushing, which ensures exceptional warmth and softness. Flannel produced in Germany is also considered to be of high quality, but the weaving method is more dense and sturdy. Flannel made in England is less popular, but also durable.

Maintenance

Maintenance depends on the material flannel is made from. Woolen flannel usually requires dry cleaning. Cotton flannel sheets can be laundered, but you need to check the label to make sure which cycle to use. Synthetic ones are easy to maintain. Generally, flannel sheets of any kind should only be washed in cold or warm water, not hot. They should be line dried if you want to make it more durable, but if that is not an option, it should be dried longer, but on a low dryer temperature.

To preserve your flannel sheet from pilling, add half a cup of white vinegar to the first washing cycle. Using a softener should be avoided, as it is known to reduce the softness of these sheets by making their fibers stiff.

Warranty and Return Policy

Finally, you should consider the warranty and return policy the manufacturer or sales sites offer. Warranty is important because you want to make sure you are protected from any possible defects and return policy enables you to decide whether you find your purchase suitable for your needs and adequate for the money invested. The best option would be a sleep trial, which enables you to verify whether flannel is comfortable for you, especially if you did not have any previous experience with such materials.

Carbon Monoxide Detector Buying Guide

Carbon monoxide is odorless and deadly, which means we can’t smell or see it. Because of that, it is important to have an alarm or detector to rely on and alert you if there is any amount of CO in your home.

What is a Carbon Monoxide Detector?

CO detectors search for particles of carbon monoxide in the air and give you information on how much concentration of CO is present with the goal of preventing carbon monoxide poisoning. Since CO is an odorless, colorless, and tasteless compound that is created by the incomplete combustion of carbon-containing materials, people cannot detect it without the use of specialized technology. Because of this, it’s usually called the silent killer. These devices have different sensors – a semiconductor, biomimetic, electrochemical, or optical-chemical sensor.

The optical-chemical model has a pad with a colored chemical that changes color as a reaction to the gas. However, they will only give a qualitative warning. With the use of cyclodextrins, chromophore, and metal salts, a biomimetic sensor darkens when there is an amount of CO in the surrounding environment. This device can be connected to an infrared source of photons, or it can be used directly. The semiconductor has thin wires with tin dioxide on a ceramic base that can sense the gas. This sensing element is heated to 400 °C, the oxygen increases the resistance of the tin dioxide and minimizes the resistance of the carbon monoxide. Electrochemical sensors have proven to be the most useful because it uses electrodes that allow an accurate detection when a change in electric current happens – which indicates the presence of the gas.

Types

You can choose between two main types of CO alarms – independent and interconnected units. As the name suggests, interconnected units are multiple devices that are linked together in order to sound the alarm. When one of the units detects carbon monoxide, all the devices will sound. They are challenging to install since they usually require wiring.

Along with that, they can be expensive due to the sophisticated system they have. Because of that, many choose to install independent units that are essentially one of those connected units that are not linked or connected to any other unit. You need to install multiple separate units in each room to get proper protection, but they will make sure you get full coverage. Additionally, they are battery powered and less expensive.

Power Source

Even though there are only three types of power source for the devices – battery-operated, plug-in or hardwired, each device must have a backup that will kick in in case of power outages. Plug-in and battery-operated devices are much easier for installing. They can be placed in a lot of areas of your home, to offer better protection. Hardwired devices are difficult to install on your own, but after they are installed, you don’t worry about them.

Alarms

Many of the CO detectors can be multi-functional – they can double as a smoke detector, which means that they will be able to detect traces of both carbon monoxide and smoke. However, since they function as two devices in one, they can be expensive.

Warranty

The normal lifespan for these devices is at least five years, but many can last for ten years. However, you need to keep in mind that detectors that last longer, usually have a higher price.

Digital Display

Most of these devices have a digital display that shows you the current carbon monoxide level in your home and gives you insight if there is a potential leak. With a screen, people can have additional reassurance about the safety of their homes. It will also help emergency responders determine the level of CO that you were exposed to and figure out the best treatment.

PPM Sensitivity

The concentration of the gas is measured in parts per million (ppm). Most of these appliances can detect levels from 30 ppm and above. However, some more sensitive models can find low levels of even 10 ppm. These devices are a good option for individuals that live with people who have a significantly greater risk of CO poisoning.

Internet Connectivity

Smart-home devices are one of the best types. They use the wireless connection of your home to send a notification to your phone about current levels of carbon monoxide, and the battery life of the appliance as well. These smart-home detectors have proven to be useful if you are away from your home and want to know your home and the people there are safe. They can even work together with other smart-home appliances in your home. However, these devices are usually quite expensive.

Safety Certification

In order to be sure that the detectors met global safety standards, you need to see if Underwriters Laboratories Standard certifies them. Devices that have certification will also have a label that states the expiration date and expected lifespan. Some states might require that the devices have a UL certification, which is also safer for you.

Safety Precautions

Every year, there are approximately 200 deaths and 5000 injuries in America from accidental CO poisoning. A research and report conducted by the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) indicates that frequent accidents or even deaths are caused by improper use or malfunctions of the equipment. If there is a malfunction, it can cause a limited air flow of our homes or fires that will create high levels of carbon monoxide. This can happen with any appliance – furnaces, dryers, gas stoves, portable fuel-burning space heaters, water heaters, generators, fireplaces, and wood-burning stoves, if they are improperly installed or malfunctioning. With this being said, it is essential to have regular inspections of the appliances.

Though smartphones, televisions, and computers come with their set of benefits, we often fail to realize that using them before bed can significantly degrade the quality of our sleep. These devices emit a strong blue light that can disturb our body’s natural sleep cycle by diminishing melatonin levels and activating our brains when we should be winding down. However, if it’s not feasible to stay away from these screens before sleep, wearing glasses designed to filter out blue light could be beneficial in protecting your sleep quality. Just as your phone’s night mode reduces blue light, these glasses prevent it from reaching your eyes, thereby helping your brain produce melatonin effectively. We’ve curated a list of our top recommendations along with an in-depth buyer’s guide to arm you with all the necessary information about these glasses.

The downside is that they are one of the costly models on the market, but they are worth it if you are sensitive to light and you want to make sure it doesn’t bother you before bed.

J+S Vision Glasses

Features

  • Light color shades of lenses
  • Customized Frame Styles
  • Blocks 90% of blue light

In contrary to the previous model, the J+S Vision offers the best daytime only blue-light blocking glasses that prevent 90% of blue light around the 400 and 430 nm wavelength. They are available in multiple frame designs – round, rectangular or wayfarer, and colors – tortoiseshell or black. The lenses are available in two different options – high definition (HD) and low color distortion (LCD) lens. The HD lens has excellent clarity and glare reduction, which is perfect for gaming or prolonged computer use. The LCD lens reduces the color distortion, making it a suitable choice for individuals that have color-sensitive work – graphic or fashion designers.  Both lens models have hydrophobic treatment with a -layer anti-reflective coating. However, they are expensive with three times more costly than any of the other models.

Eight Sleep Blue Wave Glasses

Features:

  • Light-colored lens
  • Stylish frames

The Blue Wave Glasses from Eight Sleep come with a modern design and black frames that will fit any look or outfit. WIth the light-colored lens, you can wear them during the entire day and night, especially if you’re working on a computer. However, they do cost slightly more than most models on the market, but the design has the approval of Eight Sleep’s Science Advisory Board. They also come with a cleaning cloth and carrying case.

Guide for Buying Blue-Light Blocking Glasses

Blue-light blocking glasses are a novelty, so their use and efficiency need to be clarified before moving to a variety of models to choose from.

What is Blue Light?

The sun, the ultimate source of light, is composed of the ROYGBIV rays  – red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. When these colors are combined, they create sunlight. Light beams with longer wavelengths have less energy, while light rays with shorter wavelengths have more power. At the end of the visible light, the spectrum is where the blue light rays can be found. It has the shortest wavelength, which means it has the highest energy. In the visible light spectrum, it falls near the range of the ultraviolet rays (UV), which is already dangerous to humans and the cause of sunburn and skin cancer. Like UV rays, the portion of blue light that is visible to the naked eye brings both danger and benefit.

Having a daily dose of sunlight during the day is beneficial to us. Researchers have shown that being exposed to blue light for a short period is beneficial to our health – it facilitates better memory, cognition, alertness, and even improves mood. It also helps with the regulation of the body’s natural process of wakefulness and sleep cycle, as it helps maintain a healthy circadian rhythm. However, the danger comes from the synthetic blue-light producing objects, like LED lights, televisions, fluorescent lamps, smartphones, computers, and other digital devices. These devices can discharge an amount of blue light., and if you’re exposed to it for a very long period, it will not only bring eye strain but also have adverse effects on your health.

The moment your eyes are exposed to this light, it penetrates to your retina. When this light enters through our eyes, it causes damage to the cells inside it, which can eventually result in long-term problems, like loss of vision. The Paris Vision Institute explains that children who frequently use computers, smartphones, watching television, and other digital devices are likely to acquire eye-related problems at a very young age. Apart from that, too much exposure to these devices leads to a gradual loss of vision among adults as well.

Effects of Blue-Light

First, we need to establish the impact this light has on our bodies and sleep. Our internal body clock in naturally regulated by sunlight or specifically, the day/night cycle. The sunlight sends a message to the brain that it is time to wake up, and the night tells the brain that it is time to go to sleep. In the evening, the retina sends a message to the hypothalamus to start producing melatonin which then further lowers the body temperature and prepared our body for sleep

Unfortunately, new technologies are starting to impact this natural cycle. The screens of our electronic devices, such as smartphones, tablets, computers, televisions and other, emit blue light which our brain mistakes for daylight. Blue light can be useful during the day because it keeps us focused, but it can damage our eyesight. However, in the evening, it can prevent us from hitting the hay peacefully. By sending false signals to our brains, it prevents or delays the production of melatonin, which then negatively impacts our sleep. You have all experienced a lack of sleep after watching television for too long in the evening or working on your computer until late. Due to blue light, it may take you longer to fall asleep, your sleep may be shorter and more  restless, and lastly, deep sleep, one of the most important stages of sleep, is reduced.

Studies confirm the negative effect of the blue light on sleeping, such as the one which showed that the individuals who wore blue-light blocking glasses three hours before bed experienced deep uninterrupted sleep as opposed to the ones not wearing them.

Benefits

Blue-light blocking glasses can also reduce the eye strain coming from long exposure to computer lights. Such eye strain can come after as much as two hours looking at the screen and can cause severe headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes and pain in the neck and shoulders, so no need to point out the benefit here, especially since the majority of adults use computers longer daily.

It is even more damaging when it comes to younger people and children who tend to spend a lot of time in the evening playing video games, causing them to be tired and poorly focused the following day. Also, smartphones are becoming an integral part of their lives, so they do not part with them even in the evening, leaving them next to their beds, too close to their bodies, to emit the blue light during the night, thus reducing the sleeping hours even more. School children need nine to ten hours of sleep to refresh their bodies, and recent studies show they are sleeping less than seven hours.

This all indicates how important it is to minimize the influence of the blue light in the evening. It can be done by reducing the time spent on the devices in the evening and by stopping to use them one hour before sleep, or by choosing a book instead. As for children, we need to educate them to get into a regular sleeping routine by adhering to the suggestions above.

If limiting the exposure to this light in the evening is not an option for any reason, then you should turn to blue-light blocking glasses, as excellent protection against the potential damages of blue light.

Features

Blue-light blocking glasses are also known as video gaming or computer reading models. As mentioned, they are intended to block intense blue light, so there are several points to think about before deciding on the right ones.

It is imperative for blue-light blocking glasses to protect from a wide range of wavelengths, so they should prevent at least 90% of blue light. The indicator for the amount of blocked light is the color of lenses. They come in various colors, from yellow, through orange to dark red. Darker lenses mean more protection and are better for night use, and lighter lenses are better for daytime use. They work by reflecting this light away from our eyes, so our brains do not perceive it as daylight, or in other words, they reduce the amount of light to a level adequate for the night. Thus, the brain will start producing melatonin on time, regardless of the effect of the screens. This is a crucial point to consider before choosing the lens color. It is worth mentioning that the daytime these blue-light blocking items should be taken off when going outside, to let your brain receive a necessary dosage of natural sunlight. Likewise, the dark lenses should not be used during the day, as they will signal the brain to start producing melatonin and you will start feeling sleepy or tired as if you are preparing for night rest. They should not be used when driving because of the possible color distortion.

The less important point is the frame color, as it is only a matter of aesthetics and personal taste. However, the size is significant as it needs to cover the head sizes of all ages, from children to older adults. It is vital to choose a model that fits your head’s size perfectly so that you don’t have difficulties when wearing it. There is a unisex size that was made to suit the average-sized adult, but it might be best to try out different models and find the one that best suits you.

For people already using eyeglasses with diopters, there is an option of fit-over blue-light blocking glasses which are designed to fit over regular glasses. These can also come combined with magnification options, according to the prescribed diopters.

Additional Remarks

Regardless of the protection that blue-light blocking products offer, exposure to digital screens should be limited, and users should take frequent breaks, for example, every 20 minutes. It is also useful to focus on objects in the distance, which are about 20 feet away, for 20 seconds.

If provided, you should use the red-light filter app on your device. Also, try not to use electronic devices for at least one hour before going to bed.

Finally, the prices of these products vary depending on the producer and quality, and if you want to save some money, you can wait for discounts.

Guide for Buying Teeth Whitening Products

The number of products for teeth whitening is high, and it can be difficult to choose the right one. Hopefully, this review will make your choice easier by revealing the types of products and their effects and giving you the right suggestions on how to whiten your teeth.

Types

The types of teeth whitening aids are many, but they can be categorized by how effective they are, how long it takes them to work, what kind of stains they can treat and ultimately, by price. The most familiar product of this kind is whitening toothpaste. It is also the simplest one, as it falls under the regular teeth brushing we do every day. However, it usually treats only stains on the surface of the teeth, whereas the internal ones stay visible. Also, it can take from several days to several weeks to work. It is usually made on the basis of peroxide or abrasives. The best thing about this product is its price, as it costs from $3 to $20.

The popularity of whitening pens is increasing rapidly. It is portable, and looks like a small pen, as the name suggests, ending with a brush. It fits into a bag, so it is suitable for traveling. The pen contains gel on the basis of carbamide or hydrogen peroxide. The gel is easily applied on the teeth with the brush after daily toothbrushing or after meals (again depending on the product), two times a day. Its price is also an advantage, as it costs from $10 to $40.

Another type of treatment for home use is a whitening strip, and it costs between $20 and $50. Basically, it consists of a plastic strip covered with whitening gel, usually hydrogen peroxide. It is easy to handle, as you can simply apply it on your teeth, and keep it on for 30 to 60 minutes, as indicated on the label. It is used once a day, and its effects show in several days.

A whitening gel is a bit more complex to use. The gel is put in the tray by a provided syringe and then placed on the teeth for 30 to 60 minutes. The strength of the gel depends on the amount of peroxide used, and it can vary from one producer to another. The price is, consequently, higher and it goes from $50-$70, which can be its downside.

The most expensive, and therefore the least cost-effective would be a whitening light, as it costs from $50 to $150. However, its effect is quicker, and it lasts longer. Whitening light is used to enhance the effect of a whitening gel. It is a blue LED light which can be bought separately, or together with a whitening gel or a whitening strip.

No matter which of these products you use, you need to choose wisely, depending on what you want to achieve, how sensitive you are to certain components of the product, how safe they are and how much time you can spend on your treatment.

Factors to Consider Before Buying a Teeth Whitening Product

The components mostly used in whitening products are carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide. The whitening power depends on the percentage of agent used. But then again, the higher percentage may affect sensitive gums and teeth, so it is not always better to opt for a stronger agent. Therefore, competent institutions recommend the concentration of hydrogen peroxide to be used at home 10% or lower. As for carbamide peroxide which is milder than hydrogen peroxide, the right level would be 35% or lower. Higher percentages may be used by the competent dentists, who know how to take care of the gums.

The percentage also depends on the results you wish to achieve. If your teeth are already relatively white and need to be brightened a little, then the 6% hydrogen peroxide is sufficient. If there are old stains on your teeth, you might opt for a higher percentage. However, the stains might be originating from medications, and those require longer treatments or maybe some other means, such as veneers. Coffee stains are easier to remove. Also, the color of your teeth is essential. Yellow teeth are easier to whiten than gray teeth.

As a consequence of the whitening treatment, we should take into consideration gum and teeth sensitivity issues, as well. Teeth nerves are sensitive to peroxide, while gums will respond to it if a tray is not fitted well, so the gel gets in touch with them. Tooth filling can also cause sensitivity, and some people are more sensitive than others. Higher peroxide concentration can have a corrosive effect on the skin, as well. The best protection is to follow the instructions provided with the product.

In order to alleviate the sensitivity, one should opt for a lower percentage of peroxide, or pause for several days between the treatments. Also, toothpaste for sensitive teeth might be used, or the one with fluoride which will remineralize the teeth. Furthermore, teeth whitening should be performed once or twice a year, except for toothpaste, which can be used daily.

Consistent treatment is crucial for success. You need to estimate the time you have available and compare it to the time required for each option to work, and then make a decision which one is the best for you. The best time to conduct treatment would be evening, before bed. With toothpaste, it is easy, but other whitening options can also become your routine. You need to determine whether you can do other things while treating your teeth, or you can simply dedicate yourself to that action. For example, you can put the strips on and still talk to other people, maybe even drink, but the LED light is more demanding. The time is more or less the same, it should be 30-60 minutes before bed, and during that time you can read or watch TV, or prepare for the next day. The process should not normally cause any sleep disturbances, but if some sensitivity occurs, which interferes with your sleep, you can perform your whitening activity in the morning instead.

Overnight face masks are sought after for addressing various concerns like dryness, redness, acne, or simply for adding moisture and improving the skin’s appearance. It also adds a protective layer that will leave your skin feeling soft and dewy. The product is also oil-free, but it does have caffeine, which is considered as a significant contributor to antioxidant properties, as well as the ability to transfuse the skin, providing it with a “perky” quality. Many describe the product as an affordable part of their daily care routine that effectively moisturizes the skin. The product does not contain any phthalates or parabens that could harm the skin or the health of its users. You need to apply it at night and wash it off early in the morning.

Guide for Buying Overnight Face Mask

An overnight face mask is a practical help for your evening skin care. It is designed to cover your entire face, leaving open spaces for your eyes, nose, and mouth. There is a variety of beauty types at the market, with various features and modes of application. Some are applied by a brush as a layer of gel or cream and are rinsed off or left to absorb into the skin, or even peeled off when dried. Others come as a finished product in the form of a sheet which is placed on the face and left to work its magic and then removed after a suggested time of application.

Some products are meant to be worn for a short period, like a few minutes or a few hours, whereas others are supposed to be left to work overnight. Even though they are all called night masks, you should check thoroughly the duration written in the instructions, or even check some reviews made by previous users.

As they all have different properties, you need to get to know which one is the most useful for your type of skin. Masks are usually worn during the night, as this is the time when we are still, and it allows the skin to rest and absorb the precious ingredients.

As already noted above, every type has another problem to focus on, so the first decision point is to determine what your skin needs. The hydration cremes will not help you with skin redness and those that provide glow to the face might not provide firmness, so choose carefully.

In the following text, we will focus on some frequent skin problems and adequate products to treat them.

Dry Skin

Dry skin is a prevalent skin condition. It is annoying because it can cause itching, peeling of the skin, and a sensation of tension. Also, dry skin is prone to wrinkles. For this type of skin, moisturizing masks are the best solution, especially the ones which help moisture retention during the night. Research shows the best ingredient for binding water molecules in the skin is hyaluronic acid, so you should choose products that contain this useful element. Another helpful factor is coconut oil, and more and more beauty products are made based on this ingredient.

Oily and Acne-prone Skin

This is also a widespread skin problem. It gives a look of greasy cover to the skin, which is not appealing. You may have fewer wrinkles, but you risk having more acne because oily skin tends to have that problem. Research has found that clay absorbs oils and controls shine well. That is why clay products are top-rated. They clean skin impurities and absorb any additional oil. Clay masks can be used daily if they also have hydrating properties, and the tip for daily use is not to leave such masks to dry completely.

Charcoal is also beneficial for oily skin. Charcoal-based products will draw oil, dirt, and toxins from the skin pores and in time, your skin will become more apparent.

Natural ingredients in the product are prevalent, so you can find a variety of honey-based ones, which have antibacterial and antiseptic properties deriving from honey. Such types are also valuable for oily and acne-prone skin.

Another natural cleanser is lactic acid, so these masks will help remove dead skin and excessive oil, leaving less space for acne growth. Tea tree based products are very good for acne-prone skin because of their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.

Irritation and Redness

Irritated skin requires special care and extreme caution. It needs to be treated with masks specifically made for sensitive skin, so as not to make the problem worse. Usually, sensitive skin products are based on natural herbs, such as chamomile or peppermint, because of their calming and hydrating effects. Aloe Vera extracts are common ingredients as well since Aloe Vera is known for its soothing properties. Honey and oatmeal masks are also beneficial.

Dull Skin

Dull skin appears as a consequence of dead skin accumulation. In that sense, the qualities that masks for this type of skin need to have are rejuvenation and brightening. Such products are exfoliating, and after application, they leave fresher, revitalized skin, free of dead skin cells. Exfoliating items are usually based on citric acid, lactic acid, oatmeal, brown sugar, and similar products.

Mixed Skin

Skin can be partially dry and oily, depending on the face zone. A typical oily area is the so-called T zone, which covers the forehead and nose. The rest of the skin can be dry. In that case, some masks cover specifically T zone.

Ingredients

Apart from beneficial elements, such as vitamins and minerals, these masks can contain parabens as well, so this is also a point to take into consideration. Some people are concerned about the effects of chemicals on their health and will, therefore, choose products without parabens or sulfates. Also, some people prefer organic products, so they should carefully read the composition to make sure all ingredients are produced in such a manner. Vegans should, obviously, pay attention to whether the item is free of animal by-products. Those with allergy-prone skins need to choose clinically proven allergy free products. Dry skin users should avoid alcohol-based products.

People who are not sure how their skin will react to a particular product should test its effect by applying a tiny amount of the product to a small patch of the skin and leave it for some time to work. If there an adverse reaction occurs, such a product should be discarded.

Sensation

A sensation that these masks cause is also essential. Some feel heavy while others feel sticky, which can all make it uncomfortable for you to sleep with. In that case, perhaps gel-based masks are a better option for you.

Tips for Using Overnight Face Masks

Before using these masks, there are certain things you need to know that can help avoid unwanted results or complications. We’ve gathered a list of things you should know before using these products. Take a look.

  1. Always consider the type and sensitivity of your skin, and make sure that you pick a suitable product based on those concerns.
  2. Whenever you start using them, try your best to use them consistently to obtain the best results, because, as we all know, changes won’t happen overnight.
  3. Don’t leave a mask on your skin longer than it should stay, because leaving it for too long won’t get you a better result, and could harm your skin instead.
  4. Don’t use it too much, just apply the right amount to avoid any unwanted effects that a super thick layer might cause.
  5. When you start to experience adverse effects, like irritation, redness, or acne break out, see a medical professional immediately. Don’t wait for things to get worse.
  6. It is important that your face and hands are clean, so make sure to wash your face thoroughly before and after applying the product on your face.
  7. Read and follow the right precautionary measures that are indicated on the product. The instructions will give you an idea about your skincare routine.
  8. Pay attention to the ingredients used in the product – they can help you avoid unwanted complications.

In case you are prone to overheating while sleeping, this mattress is a good choice for you. The cover has Tencel, an eco-friendly, plant-based material. Besides this mattress being a good choice for environmentally-friendly shoppers, it is also very soft and extremely breathable. Mixed-in with the Tencel cover is also memory foam. The layer under the cover is a combination of hypersoft and gel memory foams that provide pressure relief and contours to your body. The layer under this one is there to provide support to the foam layers located above it.

The main attribute and benefit of the WinkBed mattress is the edge support. It has pocketed coils that are bound in foam, and they reinforce the mattress to help prevent you from sinking in the bed.

Mattress Buying Guide for Back Sleepers

Less than 10% of adults that live in the U.S. sleep on their backs. Some of the most common positions that back sleepers sleep in include the following:

  • Soldier: Your arms are fully spread at the sides, with one or even both legs slightly bent at the knee.
  • Starfish: Your arms are both bent at the elbows and spread upward while being parallel with the head, and either one or both of your legs legs are bent at the knee.
  • Savasana: The arms and legs are all fully spread.

Neither of these positions are technically ‘correct’ or ‘better’ than the others. But back sleeping, similarly to side sleeping, naturally adjusts the spine with the pelvis, which can help alleviate distress and uneasiness and pressure points throughout your body. A supportive mattress can help guarantee comfortable sleep for a long time, while an unsupportive mattress may prompt more pains and aches.

Shopping Considerations for Back Sleepers

In addition to the appropriate spinal arrangement, there are other advantages and benefits to sleeping on your back. When looking for the best mattress firmness for back sleepers, you need to carefully look and test out different models until you find out what suits you best. The position does not need any extra support pillows, which is the case with side and stomach sleeping, and you’re less inclined to develop wrinkles on your face if you sleep on your back. But sleeping on your back also conveys the accompanying health risks and problems:

  • Snoring: Your tongue and breathing muscles loosen up and relax when you sleep on your back, which can obstruct airflow in your throat. Because of this people tend to snore more, especially people with sleep apnea, a disorder described by a brief loss of breath during sleep.
  • Acid reflux: Acid reflux and indigestion problems are symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which happens when stomach acid goes to the tube connecting the mouth and the stomach. Acid reflux irritates the lining of your stomach, and that can prompt chest pains and heartburn. People with GERD are more vulnerable to acid reflux-related uneasiness when they sleep on their back.
  • Neck pain: Back sleepers frequently encounter neck strains and issues because of their pillow being either excessively thin or excessively thick. Pillow loft (or thickness) is straightforwardly tied to the sleeper’s body weight, the width of the shoulders, and size of the head. Neck pain is a common thing among back sleepers, but it is not to be disregarded because it can lead to more serious problems.
  • Pregnancy discomfort: Pregnant women frequently encounter inconvenience in their midsection as their bellies expand, to a great extent because of unequal weight circulation. Sleeping on one’s back amid the second or third trimester of pregnancy can cause lower back pain to start developing. Because of this, most doctors suggest that pregnant women sleep on their sides to lighten the pressure of this additional weight.

How to Choose the Best Mattress for Back Sleeping

Mattress support is an important factor for back sleepers. Supportive mattresses have a flat or even surface that adjusts to the body of the sleeper and aligns to the neck and spine without the body sinking in the mattress. The support of the mattress relies and depends on two factors: the weight of the person and the firmness of the sleep surface. The majority number of mattresses that are offered are between 3 (or ‘Soft’) and 8 (or ‘Extra Firm). For people who have between 130 and 230 pounds are deemed to be average weight, and the best choice for them is to buy a medium or medium firm mattress because they will adjust to the body of the sleeper without sinking and thus gives the best support.

For other weight groups, the firmness choices are different than for the average. People who have weight under 130 pounds choose a softer mattress, and people who have more than 230 pounds are better with a firm or extra firm mattress, so they don’t sink too deeply which is an important factor for support.

The firmness choices can vary for back sleepers with different weight. People who have less than the average weight may choose firmer mattresses that don’t conform to the body so closely. This decreases pain and pressure relief. Softer sleep surfaces will adjust closer to the light-weighted body of back sleepers, to have more comfort and better support for the back.

Back sleepers that have average weight are more inclined to choose mattresses with a middle level of firmness. The mattress will adjust to the body in order to help align the spine and ease pains and aches, with no sinkage experience.

Back sleepers who have more weight may encounter inconvenience and increased pressure when they rest on extremely soft sleep surfaces. They will in general sink very deep, which will undermine the support of the mattress. It would be better to get a firmer mattress for back sleepers in this weight group.

The most important factor for sleep quality is the firmness of course. Additionally to firmness of the mattress and the weight of a person, the material composition of a mattress is also an essential consideration for people who sleep on their backs. Mattresses with latex, foam or air chamber layers tend to adjust better to your body and ease more pressure. Different factors for picking a mattress type include price, odor potential, noise, and durability.

Tips for Buying a Mattress

When you finally decide which mattress type suits you best, take a look at these tips for ordering and purchasing a mattress:

  • Settle on a practical and realistic budget. The normal sleeping mattress costs more than $1,000 for a Queen size. However, costs per model might be anywhere from less than $100 to more than $5,000. A decent strategy for customers is to make a practical mattress value run dependent on both the type and your financial budget. Additionally remember that additional shipping and handling charges are applied to orders outside the U.S., just as deliveries to remote areas in the lower 48 states.
  • Choose your sleep trials carefully. The immense majority of mattress merchants offer ‘sleep trials’ to clients. These trials enable the buyer to try out the sleeping mattress for a certain length of time  (ordinarily 90 days or more) and afterwards return the mattress within the trial period in the event that they are disappointed with the item. These sleep trials can be useful, although you need to be sure to read the small print: a few sellers charge return expenses that can add up to hundreds of dollars in some cases. And you need to be certain and check if there is an ‘obligatory break-in period’ before returns are permitted. A few sellers expect buyers to try out the mattress for at least 30 days.
  • Research about the mattress warranty. Mattresses are usually accompanied by a product warranty against specific imperfections and defects that lasts for 10 years or more. These deformities frequently incorporate sinkage or indentations in the sleeping surface that measure past a specific depth, along with material and manufacturing deformities in the mattress layers and cover. But the general warranty length isn’t as crucial as the length of non-prorated coverage. Amid non-prorated coverage, sleeping mattress holders pay pretty much nothing to have a defective mattress fixed or replaced. When the prorated coverage starts, they need to pay a specific percentage of the original cost to have the sleeping mattress fixed or supplanted, and this rate can usually be increased with each progressive year. Make sure to read the small print on your mattress warranty. Numerous warranties that last for 10 years or longer will offer a couple of long periods of non-prorated coverage.

Many people prefer sleeping on their sides, finding it the most comforting and advantageous position for rest. While sleeping preferences vary widely, a considerable amount of individuals consider side sleeping as their preferred posture. Sleeping on the left side, in particular, is often viewed as more beneficial for health than sleeping on the right side. One of the main benefits of side sleeping is how it aligns the spine, shoulders, and pelvis, thus lessening the pressure on the lower back, neck, and other sensitive areas. This position is highly beneficial for those with obstructive sleep apnea and for people who snore, as it helps keep the airways open. Moreover, sleeping on the side can help decrease acid reflux. A preference for lying on the left side can improve digestive health, ease heartburn, aid in detoxification, and is particularly advised during pregnancy for enhanced blood circulation.

If side sleepers want to enjoy the health benefits that their favorite sleep position provides, they should consider getting a mattress that provides adequate comfort and support. In most cases, side sleepers prefer softer models of mattresses because these models cushion the hips and shoulders, which makes them the most comfortable option for side sleeping. However, although soft mattresses are an ideal solution for sleepers with smaller body frames, they may not be the perfect option for heavier sleepers. Side sleepers who are a bit overweight should opt for firmer mattresses that provide the necessary support and prevent sinking into the mattress.

In case you sleep mostly on your side and are thinking about buying a new mattress, we will help you choose the right model for your bedroom. Several factors need to be considered when making this decision, such as the firmness level and material composition. Here are our top mattresses for side sleepers, based on product research and analysis, and verified customer reviews:

Saatva has a quilted cover made of breathable 100% organic cotton. This cover is very soft, and it is directly connected to the mattress to create Euro pillow top. Euro pillow top includes more cushioning and padding than regular pillow tops, and it has an additional strip of memory foam in the lumbar region, which improves pressure relief. The quality and the luxuriousness of this cover are very impressive. Beneath the pillow top is a layer of high-quality memory foam. This layer provides additional pressure relief and aids cooling thanks to the convoluted design that allows airflow. The next layer is the layer of individually wrapped coils, which provides a bounce to the mattress and prevents the sleeper from feeling stuck. The third layer is the support layer, and it is made of steel coils. This layer provides support to the entire mattress, as well as to the sleeper on top, and it is responsible for the responsiveness to pressure. This tall layer of steel coils also creates a lot of space on the mattress, and thanks to it, the airflow is improved, and so is the cooling ability of the mattress. The last layer is a high-density poly foam base layer which acts as a foundation of the entire mattress.

When it comes to firmness settings, the medium soft model is around 4 out of 10 on the firmness scale, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. The medium firm option is around 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and the firm model is around 8 out of 10. This range of firmness options is suitable for any weight group. The Saatva mattress is a perfect combination of support and comfort, and that’s what makes it a perfect option for side sleepers. It responds quickly to the applied pressure and provides excellent pressure relief and a nice cradling feeling.

The unique coil-to-coil construction of the mattress prevents sinkage and sagging. The Saatva has excellent edge support, and it is very durable. You can expect some motion transfer with this mattress, which is understandable due to its responsiveness and bounciness, but it is not excessive.

The Saatva mattress comes with a 120-night sleep trial, 15-year warranty, and free White Glove delivery, which includes direct in-home delivery and setup, with the removal of the old mattress.

Tuft & Needle Mint Mattress

Tuft & Needle Mint is a high-quality all-foam premium mattress. It is an ideal mattress for side sleepers as it is softer than the average memory foam mattress and has soft Adaptive foam in its comfort layer. This mattress is around 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and it is excellent for people who want a bed with a soft neutral-foam feel. The Mint mattress is 12” thick. The cover of the mattress has nice charcoal color and it is made with polyester and micro-polyamide. It has a very soft feel, fabrics are resistant to peeling, and it is naturally cooling. The first layer of the mattress is 3” thick and it is built with graphite-infused memory foam that aids in cooling. This Adaptive foam is made by Tuft & Needle and what makes it very interesting is that it is incredibly soft and provides great pressure relief, but at the same time, it has quick response to applied pressure. The second layer of the mattress is a 2” thick Adaptive foam transition layer infused with gel beads for more cooling and support. It extends the cooling features of the top layer. The third layer is a 7” thick base layer made of high-density poly foam, and it provides excellent support to the rest of the mattress. The edge support of this mattress is also great.

Tuft & Needle Mint is a very comfortable and soft mattress, and it is the best mattress for light sleepers and an excellent option for medium sized individuals. It may not be ideal for heavier individuals who are 225lbs+ as it doesn’t provide enough support for these sleepers. It also has excellent pressure relief, which means that you don’t have to worry about feeling pressure on your hips and shoulders. The Mint mattress also allows sleeping cool thanks to incorporated gel and graphite in its adaptive foam layer. This mattress is also open-celled, which promotes breathability and aids cooling. Motion transfer is limited on this mattress, and edge support is better than most of the other foam mattresses. The Mint also conforms to the sleeper’s body well.

Tuft & Needle Mint mattress comes with a 100-night sleep trial period, 10-year warranty, free returns and free shipping anywhere in the continental United States.

Most Common Types of Side Sleeping Positions

Most people in the United States prefer sleeping on their side. Around two-thirds of adults consider side sleeping the most comfortable position, and the most likely to fall asleep in. Here are the most common positions when it comes to side sleeping:

  • The Fetal Position – According to research, around 41% of Americans prefer this sleeping position. People who sleep in this position curl their legs at the knees, with the knees drawn up to their chest. This position looks similar to babies in the womb, hence the name fetal position, and it is the most common position among people who sleep on their side.
  • The Log Position – People who sleep in this position keep arms down and close to their body, back straight, and legs extended. Although it may not seem very comfortable, many individuals in the United States sleep this way.
  • The Yearner Position – This position is very similar to the log position, but instead of keeping their arms down, yearners keep their arms stretched out in front of them as if they are trying to reach something.

Health Benefits of Sleeping on the Side

The good news for side sleepers is that this sleeping position has many health benefits, especially sleeping on the left side, which is healthier than sleeping on the right side. When it comes to healthy sleeping positions, left side sleeping is one of the healthiest. One of the primary benefits of side sleeping is reduced acid reflux, which is important for people who are prone to having this issue. Side sleeping also prevents neck pain and back pain, and it alleviates pressure throughout the body as it keeps the spine properly aligned. Another benefit of side sleeping is improved air circulation. When people sleep in this position their airways are open, which aids the proper airflow and reduces snoring. Side sleeping is especially beneficial to individuals who are prone to snoring and have sleep apnea.

Left side is the best side to sleep on for digestion. When people sleep on their left side, they can enjoy better elimination of toxins and waste. Sleeping in this position allows gravity to encourage the movement of food waste from the small intestine into the large intestine. As a result, the descending colon is ready to easily eliminate the waste in the morning. Sleeping on the left side can also improve the health of the heart as it avoids putting too much pressure on it. It is also the best side to sleep on when pregnant. Side sleeping improves blood circulation and alleviates heartburn.

How to Choose the Best Mattress for Side Sleepers?

Although side sleeping is the most common position, it doesn’t mean that every mattress provides the right level of support. Side sleepers should look for comfortable mattresses that provide adequate support. When it comes to mattress comfort levels, it is the best idea to choose medium to medium firm mattresses. Mattresses with this firmness setting are soft enough to allow the sleeper’s shoulders and hips to sink into the mattress a bit, thus alleviating pain and pressure on these areas, and at the same time, they are firm enough to keep the spine properly aligned.

When side sleepers search for the best mattress based on the firmness they also need to take into consideration their body weight. It is normal for heavier sleepers to opt for firmer mattresses compared to the light sleepers as they provide the necessary support. People who weigh less than 130 pounds should opt for medium soft models or softer. Thanks to being lighter than average, they don’t have to worry about sinking into the mattress. If they choose firm mattresses, they may experience discomfort as these surfaces may not conform to their bodies closely enough. Sleepers with average weight should opt for medium to medium firm models. Medium mattresses are neither too soft nor too firm for them, and they provide adequate level of support. Finally, heavier sleepers should choose a medium or firm mattress. They should avoid soft models as they will sink too much into the mattress, which can cause spinal misalignment and contribute to back pain and neck pain. On the other hand, if they opt for firmer surfaces, they won’t have to worry about these problems. Also, firm mattresses provide the support that heavier sleepers need.

Another factor that should be taken into consideration when searching for the best mattress is the material composition. Foam mattresses have excellent pressure relief, close conforming, and good motion isolation. However, in many cases, they have minimal edge support. Latex mattresses also have close conforming to the body, good motion isolation and pressure relief, and minimal support on the edges. Innerspring mattresses are relatively inexpensive, have excellent edge support and they allow sleepers to sleep cool, but they often have minimal pressure relief and body conforming. Last but not least, hybrid models are very durable, have advanced cooling features, as well as strong edge support, and they conform to the sleeper’s body better than innerspring mattresses.

If you sleep mostly on your side and want to find a mattress that will fit your sleeping preferences and fulfill your needs, you should take into consideration the factors mentioned above. Don’t forget to consider the firmness level, your weight, mattress construction, as well as your budget before choosing the perfect mattress for your bedroom. It is not difficult to find the ideal model for side sleepers if you know what to look for in a mattress.
